Zuzana Ullmannová uses thin, watered-down paint and soaks it into unprimed fabric. The figures appearing in her paintings begin life in simple drawings and are enlarged, distorted and reconsidered by her painting technique. Working quickly while the paint is still wet, she gives up some control to the process. Water dries and leaves behind an unexpected, calmer image. Like the works themselves, their titles grasp for specific moods and feelings – searching for connection with others and nature, for a home in place and in one’s own body.
